What is the Accountability Framework?

 

The Accountability Framework initiative brings together 23+ leading environmental and social NGOs to provide a common roadmap for eliminating deforestation, ecosystem conversion, and human rights abuses from commodity supply chains. It isn't a certification, it's a guidance system that helps companies set credible commitments, implement effective systems, and report progress transparently. The Framework aligns with and supports other standards including CDP, SBTi FLAG, EUDR and UKFRC.

At this stage, we support clients in embedding plans into day-to-day business activity, helping teams translate commitments into supplier engagement, sourcing decisions, internal processes and monitoring systems. We work collaboratively to make sure actions are workable, proportionate, and connected to the realities of your supply chain.

• Policy benchmarking & gap analysis: we use the AFi Self-Assessment Tool to evaluate your current policies and practices against every element of the Framework, giving you a clear picture of where you stand and where to focus.

 

• Action planning: translating assessment findings into a prioritised, time-bound roadmap with clear owners, milestones and success criteria.

 

• Policy development: drafting or strengthening ethical supply chain policies and supplier codes that align with AFi principles and stakeholder expectations.

 

• Supplier engagement: communicating requirements to suppliers, building their capacity, and establishing monitoring systems.

 

• Risk assessment: commodity-specific and geographic risk profiling, so resources are focused where they matter most.

 

• Traceability: practical support to trace palm oil through the supply chain, back to mills.
